“Making the word of God of none effect through your tradition, which ye have delivered: and many such like things do ye.” Mark 7:13.
Traditions can be such a wicked thing. Jesus actually said you can make God’s word ineffective. How can the word of God lose it’s potency? If Jesus said it, then we have to look at it closely.
Now when we say tradition, don’t just narrow your mind to the new yam festival, or marriage traditions that you don’t like, tradition simply means something you do habitually, or something you are used to. It can be because of a thinking handed down to you, more like “this is how we do it” kind of thing. For example, do you know going to church on Sunday morning is a tradition? Going to school, “we must travel every Christmas, that is our tradition”. Can you get the picture now?
So how can you make God’s word ineffective by it? Remember we just talked about the sword of the Spirit which is the word of God and you are suppose to use for your benefit.
Do you know on a Sunday morning, you can hear the Lord say to you, stay at home today and many will disobey? I have a friend whose brother pastors a church in the north east. The members get to know each Sunday morning if they will be meeting or not. Sometimes the Lord will say to him, ” don’t meet today, meet on Monday”. They will obey and that is how he never lost any member throughout the Boko Haram crises.
Many are broke today because of their tradition of tithing, “I must take my tithe to church on Sunday”. The Lord ministers to them “give this tithe to so and so” and they say no and they take it church. How can the promised word of God concerning your prosperity work?
If you know what religion has done to you, you will hate it anywhere you see it.
To make God’s word effective in your life, you must separate yourself from tradition and make His word paramount. You must get out of that what will people say attitude and tell yourself, if I hear God say it, that is what I will do.
